Exploring Life ArticlesThe result of success: failure
Take a step back and look at the "American Dream". When I was in school I learned that the "American Dream" and what was special about the United States was that anyone could be successful. Anyone could be happy. Anyone could do what they wanted. There were no unfair barriers imposed by society or the system. The classic result of this seems to be a person that works not only hard, but smart too. They attain great success on a financial level, or so it seems. Their salary is great. Their work hours are reasonable. They have plenty of activities in and out of work. But in reality their life is a shambles, stressed out and angry. Full of hate for the work that has brought them so much success. What happened? Who's fault is it? What happened is they succeeded in the American Dream. They obtained a generous salary for an "easy" job. They earn more than most of their friends and work less. What happened to the happiness that success should bring? That, we need to look back to society. The focus on earning is not to have a big pile of money stuffed in your mattress or bank account. Society has us focused on earning so that we can buy more stuff. Success is not an accomplishment to be endeared. No one is looking for success. The real goal is to have a bigger house than your neighbor, a fancier sports car in the drive way, etc. Society leads us from the first glimmer of financial success into a cesspool of angry and hate. All those things we dreamed of having, of being better than our neighbor are instantly available. We just head down to the bank and sign on the dotting line. It's great. It's easy. It's fast. And, most importantly it's cheap. Only $99 a month! That's nothing compared to our grand salary. We don't realize how fast that only $99 a months add up. The banks have a carefully concocted formula that tells us what % of our income and go for our housing and other debts. Once we complete that formula, we've successful sold our lives to the devil! We've hit the point where there can be no happiness via success. We're at a point where we can barely maintain and after the monthly bills are paid we feel like a pauper. No wonder we're stressed and angry! Just imagine the buying power in your hands if you weren't sending such a percentage to the banks? Or nothing at all! It's the difference between living today for the past or for today. See what you can do to start living today for today. It might give you the time and frame of mind to really find happiness.
