What School Taught Me

As my graduation draws to a close, I realized that being in the Academe taught me many things. It isn’t just the books and lectures that added something to what I know but also the experiences I’ve been through. It is very much true that there is a lot more to learn than inside those four corners of the classroom. When I took a glimpse of what school has taught me and what school had made me, I realized that in school I just didn’t learn but I gained wisdom as well.

Being a student is never easy. I faced a lot of trials. I stayed up late just to finish that troublesome paperwork. I tried to fight that sleepiness to be able to listen to my boring professor. I even cried because of failed quizzes, felt disappointment when I failed to answer that critical recitation question, experienced the intense nervousness right before the proctor hands me my exam questionnaire. I felt my hand perspire as I waited for my name to be announced as one who passed the subject. I waited patiently and anxiously for the grades to be released. I even made that copy-paste-rephrase routine for that freaking assignment. In school, I realized how to fall in love and get hurt. But as I looked back on the things I’ve done and the things I’ve been through, I realize that it’s not just the hardships that I encountered that counts, because the school that brought me struggles and stress is the same school that gave a smile on my face and a euphoric feeling to my heart.

In school, I made friends and I was able to be in a circle of friends wherein we don’t treat each other as just classmates or friends because in there, we treat each other as brothers and sisters. The friends I have were the ones who helped me moved on and helped me to heal my heart when it was shattered to many pieces. I also made my teachers proud and I was also able to bring smiles to other people’s faces and even make them cry because of too much laughter. We jumped all together every time we were able to pass a subject. We laughed out loud because when I got a low score, I know I was never alone. We do things together and seriously those simple yet happy memories I’ve experienced while going to school with them is beyond comparison. The friends I gained became very precious to me that even after I received my diploma and will leave the school premises to enter the real world, I will never lose them.

Because of those things I’ve done and been through, I’ve learned that the experiences, the advices I received and the memories I’ve shared with the valuable people I’ve met in school are the ones that I will treasure for a lifetime.
